/Muskegon, MI, December 14, 2015: The Muskegon County Land Bank and the City of Muskegon Heights have selected ASTI Environmental to provide Pre-Demolition Asbestos Surveys and Abatement Monitoring services for 37 properties in the City of Muskegon Heights. ASTIs Director of West Michigan Operations, Joe Beutler, will lead the scheduling of all field activities, QA/QC of lab results, report preparation, as well as oversight of all abatement activities. ASTI has completed similar scopes of work for Blight Elimination projects throughout the State of Michigan, including the Lenawee County Land Bank and the Cities of Inkster and Alpena.
Funding for this project was made available through the US Department of Treasury’s Hardest Hit Fund (HHF) for Blight Elimination. Launched in 2010, HHFs have been dedicated to the 18 hardest hit states plus the District of Columbia to address the damaging effects caused by the housing crisis that began in 2007 and left vacant and blighted properties in it’s wake. Eligible cities for HHFs in Michigan were selected by MSHDA based on an evaluation system that included residential housing vacancy rates and consideration of homeowners with deeply underwater mortgages that suffered the most from the housing crisis www.stepforwardmichigan.org . States have until the end of 2017 to utilize HHFs.
