WETLAND INVENTORY MAP
CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF CLINTON, MI
ASTI developed a GIS-based wetland inventory for the Charter Township of Clinton. ASTI compiled base maps utilizing high quality aerial photographs overlaid with the Macomb County Wetland Indicators Map information (showing hydric soils as well as potential and NWI-mapped wetland areas). These base maps were utilized to identify potential wetland units greater than 2 acres in size and potential watercourses within the Township.
Wetland boundaries were ground-truthed from public properties and rights-of-way; from these access points, potential wetland units were verified or eliminated and additional wetland units were identified. Final wetland boundaries were mapped on the aerial photograph/base maps. Each identified wetland unit was assessed as to type, condition, dominant plant species composition, and size.
From this information, ASTI prepared a GIS-based wetland inventory with linked attribute data to be used by Township planning officials to make land use decisions.
