ASTI Directors bring more than 20 years of profressional experience in their respective areas of expertise.
Mr. Robert Anderson - Director of Site Redevelopment Services Group, brings more than 25 years of experience in the environmental services industry and will direct ASTIs Site Redevelopment Services Group. Mr. Anderson has led environmental due diligence, due care evaluation and planning, soil/groundwater investigation, brownfield redevelopment and remediation programs and has a specific expertise with Financial Institutions and Attorneys. Mr. Anderson has also coordinated numerous hazardous material and pre-demolition surveys which included evaluations of lead-based paint, asbestos, mold and radon for commercial and residential developments. In addition, Mr. Anderson has developed and coordinated various MSHDA and HUD environmental submittals for multi-family residential developments. He received the NAEP Presidents award for Environmental Excellence in 2003 and 2004. He hails from Old Dominion University and Lake Superior State College (now University) and resides in grand Blanc with his wife Suzanne.
Mr. Bruce Bawkon, P.E. - Director, Industrial Compliance Group. Mr. Bawkon has over 30 years of experience as a professional engineer. He is successful in managing technical staffs and large scale projects pertaining to regulatory compliance, facility design, permitting and complex investigations for both single- and multi-site operations at solid waste management and industrial facilities. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Michigan and Illinois, a Certified Storm Water Management Operator and a member of the Washtenaw County Consortium for Solid Waste Management. He oversees all of ASTIs compliance and permit programs, and various compliance monitoring projects for solid waste and industrial sites in Michigan and Illinois. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan, with a Masters in Engineering and Bachelors in Natural Resources.
Mr. Gary Bindus - Director of Operations, Has over 30 years of experience in financial operations and management. He is responsible for all support operations. Mr. Bindus earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration majoring in Finance and Accounting from Eastern Michigan University.
Mr. Doug Brown - Director of Development, connects clients to strategic real estate opportunities and is also responsible for client satisfaction and growing the ASTI brand throughout the Great Lakes Region. Mr. Brown led the most successful Brownfield Transaction Forum ever and has received numerous awards for excellence in economic development and real esate, including Commercial Inc. Magazine's "Elite Eight," the Michigan Economic Developers Association President's Award and the Horizon Award Trophy from Detroit Fusion - The Detroit Retional Chamber's Young Leader's Orgnization.
Mr. George Kandler - Director of Property Services Group, is a certified environmental professional with over 30 years of experience and one the ASTI Environmental's owners. He is an active member of the Building Industry Association of Southeast Michigan, American Society of Testing Materials, and a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager. Mr. Kandler recieved a B.S. in Biological Science from Michigan Technological University before obtaining an M.S. in Limnology from Michigan State University.
Ms. Dianne Martin - Director of the Resource Assessment and Management Group, is an ecological expert with 16 years of experience serving clients throughout the Midwest. Since arriving at ASTI Environmental in 1998 Ms. Martin has completed numerous projects ranging from Threatened and Endangered Species Surveys to Wetland Delineations. She is a graduate of Western Michigan University where she earned a B.S. in Biology and Ms. Martin holds an M.S. from Eastern Michigan University. Ms. Martin is a member of the Society of Wetland Professionals.
Mr. Thomas Wackerman - Tom Wackerman, President and founder of ASTI Environmental is also the practice leader for their Brownfield Redevelopment Group. In addition, Mr. Wackerman is the Chairman of the University of Michigan/Urban Land Institute Real Estate Forum that has been convened in Grand Rapids, at his direction, on two occasions (2008 and 2012). While overseeing offices at 660 Cascade West Parkway in Grand Rapids and Brighton, he has been instrumental in the technical and policy aspects of Brownfield Redevelopment and obtaining incentives for projects across the state, including the redevelopment of the Steelcase Campus. Mr. Wackerman earned his degree from the University of Michigan.
